Hilton Heir Ordered to Pay Punitive Damages in DUI Settlement
A jury awarded nearly $5 million in damages to gas station worker Fernando Telez, who was hit by Barron Hilton's car just before the hotel heir was arrested for DUI.
Radar Online staff reported in "Barron Hilton Ordered to Pay $225,000 to DUI Accident Victim" that in addition to a $4.6 million award from the insurance company, Hilton had to pay $225,000 in punitive damages.
Telez claimed that he broke his back and was unable to work after the accident. However, during the trial, it was revealed that Telez didn't seek medical attention the day of the accident and continued to work for a month afterward.
NFL Star Reaches Undisclosed Settlement with Family of DUI Accident Victim
NFL star Donte Stallworth had traces of marijuana in his system and a blood alcohol level above Florida's .08 limit when he struck and killed a construction worker with his car. Stallworth told police he had met up with friends and did shots of tequila during the hours before the accident; however, he said, he did not feel drunk.

Stallworth reached an undisclosed financial settlement with the family of the construction worker. The settlement factored into Stallworth's relatively light sentence: 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter.
Sheriff's Detective, Driver Settle DUI Case for $4.75 Million
A former sheriff's deputy was drinking on duty when he critically injured the driver of another vehicle in a collision.
According to Greg Hardesty in "Deputy’s DUI crash settled for $4.75 million," Elias Aldana suffered a traumatic brain injury, rib and pelvic fractures, a torn left shoulder and other internal injuries. In addition, he had to undergo a splenectomy. Prior to the settlement, his medical tab had reached $2.1 million.
County supervisors approved the $4.75 million settlement.
