Suit Against New Jersey Incumbent Seeks Disclosure of Sexual Harassment Settlement

The opponent of a New Jersey state senatorial candidate filed a suit to release the details of a 2004 sexual harassment settlement. Almost $50,000 of taxpayer dollars reportedly went toward the defense of the allegations, in part because the state Senate was named as a co-defendant.

Dan Goldberg reported in "N.J. Senate candidate says settlement of incumbent Bucco's sexual harassment suit should be made public" that William Chegwidden, who is running against incumbent Sen. Anthony Bucco in the Republican primary, would like the details of the 2004 settlement disclosed to the public.

"Bucco is insulting every taxpayer by not explaining exactly why he allowed over $48,000 in taxpayer resources to help him reach a private settlement," Chegwidden told the press.

County Settles Sexual Harassment Suit

A former Hudson County, N.J., correctional employee agreed to a $305,000 settlement in a sexual harassment lawsuit she filed against the county and two fellow officers.

Terrence T. McDonald reported in "Hudson County agrees to $305,000 settlement in sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former female correctional employee" that the plaintiff alleged that two of her male colleagues made derogatory comments, which included calling her a "damn hussy" and "ho."

Hudson County did not admit to wrongdoing in the settlement, stating that it agreed to settle in order to save taxpayer money on lengthy litigation.

Car Dealership Agrees to Settlement in Sex and Age Discrimination Suit

Tom Morton reported in "Car dealership, ex-employee settle discrimination lawsuit" that a former employee of White’s Mountain Motors LLC agreed to settle a federal sex and age discrimination lawsuit.

U.S. District Judge Alan Johnson granted a motion to dismiss the case and move to settlement. The terms were not disclosed.

Attorney James Worthen, who represented the dealership, had no comment and would not discuss the case.

The plaintiff, Jo Snidow, sued the dealership over a co-worker who allegedly harassed her with cell phone messages and verbal comments.
