McDuffie v. Georgia-Pacific Corporation
Kenneth McDuffie ran head on into the tractor-trailer of Marvin Ruffin which was blocking an entire two-lane highway. Mr. Ruffin was attempting to turn around at the time Mr. McDuffie his is truck. Due to the position of the sun, McDuffie could not see the truck, blocking the road, and ran into it at a very high rate of speed. McDuffie was left with severe trauma to his head and later settled with Georgia-Pacific, the owner of the tractor-trailer.
Thompson v. Chrysler
Jessica Thompson was riding in a Dodge Minivan when the van was involved in an accident. Ms. Thompson was ejected from the car and suffered severe trauma to her brain. It was later determined that she would not have been ejected from the car nor suffered serious brain trauma had the liftgate door not opened. The victim and her family settled with Chrysler just before the start of the trial.
